'Bonhoeffer' film launches Congregational Church film series
Published Date
SANBORNTON — In partnership with the Sanbornton Public Library, the Sanbornton Congregational Church - UCC will be sponsoring a Film Series held on the first Wednesday of every month at the library. Show time will be 6:30-8:30 p.m.The first film, shown on February 6, will be "Bonhoeffer" (Journey Films 2003- 93 minutes). Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a young German theologian who offered one of the first clear voices of resistance to Adolf Hitler.
Bonhoeffer openlychallenged his church to stand with the Jews in their time of need and eventually joined a plot to kill Hitler. Extensive research brings to life this amazing story of moral courage. Extraordinary archival footage is interwoven with interviews with those who knew Bonhoeffer, with historians and theologians, and the words of Bonhoeffer hlmself, read by Klas Maria Brandauer.
This film was a winner of the Gabriel Award; an award designed to honor works of broadcast excellence that have a positive and creative treatment of concerns to mankind. A discussion will follow the film led by Rev. Ruth Martz.
